A few years ago you used to be able to go to Gary Panter’s studio most days at noon and he’d put on a lightshow for you. I did it and have never quite been the same since. Brand new and delightful NK 6. Yes, this is the premier book of Euro art noise – there are old and young kooks in here alike. Once again, I love this thing as an heir to ESDS and Bazooka and similarly forward thinking transgressive post punk mags. Here was have 196 pages of art by the likes of CF, Leon Sadler, Pascal Doury, Hendrik Hegray, Frederic Fleury and many others. Great shit.

Core of Caligula is C.F.’s ongoing series of “daily life” comics. Funny, a little scary, and all together compelling, they follow an unnamed man as he tries to figure out who or what he is. Marked by the usual gorgeous drawing and design, Core of Caligula is the latest essential entry of C.F.’s work from PictureBox.

Aiming to put the odd new comic book series by Thurber (late of Kramers Ergot and cult band Soiled Mattress and the Springs). At once funny, surreal, and psychedelic, 1-800 MICE explores the world of Volcano Park and its intriguing residents, including Peace Punks, Mice Messengers, and Tree People. Thurber’s scratchy, expressive linework nearly bursts out of the panels, describing whole worlds in single pages. This one is sort of like a punky-hippy Hobbit.
