Core of Caligula is C.F.’s ongoing series of “daily life” comics. Funny, a little scary, and all together compelling, they follow an unnamed man as he tries to figure out who or what he is. Marked by the usual gorgeous drawing and design, Core of Caligula is the latest essential entry of C.F.’s work from PictureBox.

Aiming to put the odd new comic book series by Thurber (late of Kramers Ergot and cult band Soiled Mattress and the Springs). At once funny, surreal, and psychedelic, 1-800 MICE explores the world of Volcano Park and its intriguing residents, including Peace Punks, Mice Messengers, and Tree People. Thurber’s scratchy, expressive linework nearly bursts out of the panels, describing whole worlds in single pages. This one is sort of like a punky-hippy Hobbit.

Gary sings lead and guitar and Devin conjures forth ambitious, omnivorous and altogether ambidextrous soundscapes, not to mention some sweet harmonizing.
