Her brother is set upon by the pack as the omega, low-wolf on the totem pole and constantly put in his place, which even though he's psyched to be a werewolf eventually comes to a head later in the story. Her ambivalence about being a werewolf develops into her interest in contacting a researcher who is studying lycanthropy and who is understood by the mainstream as being a 'crackpot,' but in that X-Files kind of way is actually aware of The Truth. The rest of the pack, including her brother, are not interested in finding a cure for something they don't think is bad, and in fact have an interest in stopping Alice and the researcher.
