Keiichi Tanami often says that the unusual experiences he went through as a child and youth are vital elements in the source of his creativity. Among them, the first hand encounter with the war in the Pacific had the most profound impact. As an adult he blends the innocence of youth with the horrific memory of those events in a psychedelic Kaleidoscope of color, pattern and frenetic form that is part pop art, part horror manga and part fanciful cartoon collage --all painted by hand.
